Shaun Carter Chiropractor
I have been a registered Chiropractor since 2002 working at Watchbell House & since 2017 with my colleague Martin at our Freshwater Clinic. I have over 30years of clinical experience working in the NHS as a Paramedic with lead clinical, educational, governance and specialist operational roles. I have worked across all health and care sectors leading in health services redesign, which has given me the understanding that wellness care does not happen in isolation, is best when individualised and is always evolving. My own interests in sport in particular American Football, where I played at a national and international level introduced me to the benefits of conditioning, rehabilitation and the many therapies that can be utilised. As a coach I see the benefits of fitting the approach to the person to unlock an individual’s potential. My passion is working with my patients to help them maximise their physical potential. This may be to improve pain, maintain mobility or improve physical performance. I combine the McTimoney chiropractic method with soft tissue and other mobilisation or support techniques. My aim is to work with an individual, to help educate and guide them to achieve their goals in using chiropractic treatment. I recommend diversity in this approach and welcome working with other therapists and care professionals that best fit your needs. To help maximise the benefit of our time together I utilise an innovative individualised rehabilitation program utilising smart devices to guide your rehabilitation and self-care at a time and place that suits you.

Martin Scotcher
Born on the Isle of Wight, Martin started his career in Chiropractic having graduated from the Oxford based McTimoney College of Chiropractic in 1997. Following qualification and involvement in one of the first high-tech research projects done by the institution, he was immediately asked back to take up a position at the college, specialising in teaching the practical application of chiropractic technique. Simultaneously, Martin successfully launched into practice on the Island, working both at Watchbell House Natural Therapy Centre and with the late Bronwen Herbertson at her West Wight clinic, which has latterly grown and blossomed into Smart Health under his leadership. Over the last 20 years, he has successfully treated a multitude of patients of every generation and demographic, from a baby of only 2 day old to very determined folks in their 90′s. Having done additional training in sports therapy therapies, Martin has worked very closely with several of the Island’s top professional and amateur athletes and knows first hand how important effective rehabilitative care and preventative treatment can be. After 25 years of competition, retiring from the punishing impacts of league basketball was a difficult, but sensible decision. Since then, usually driven by charitable ideals, he has taken on a number of extreme challenges, starting in 2008, by climbing the 3 highest mountain peaks in the UK in just 24 hours. In 2011, Martin led a 10 man team in setting a 1 million metre row British record and was part of the 8 man team that attempted to break the record for rowing the 70 miles around the Isle of Wight in 2013 whilst raising funds for the Ellen MacArthur Trust. Sea swimming has also become a passion and having successfully swum across the Western Solent in 2012, he now helps with the preparation and safety of other swimmers for such events and is proud to work closely with the West Wight Sports Centre Trust, as it was for them that he swam competitively as a child. In 2017, Martin successfully completed his first ‘ultra’ event in the form of the Ultra 40 Quadrathon in aid of the same organisation. In recognition of the positive promotion of the Chiropractic profession through his charity fundraising and his work for the Executive Committee of the McTimoney Chiropractic Association, Martin was nominated by his peers and in 2013, awarded a Fellowship by his professional association.
